Went to dentist today. Dentist refused to do anything until 16. Escaped braces. Haha.

Its the last day of 2008, glad it is. 2008 was screwed up, happy to get it over with. But I also dun wanna go to 2009. I dun wanna be 15, and I dun wanna say goodbye to a few people whom I'll probably never get to meet in person for the rest of my life. Thanks Elliott for being so nice to me. (wish u had stayed at Independent for yr 5 and 6, will miss u badly)

Its Christmas! 11:22 AM

Yeah, Christmas party was yesterday, on the eve. The three little people (other cousins i dun like) are not coming, haha.

Went to IKEA today for curtains, and got a whole sheepskin for a christmas present. We thought it was $12, but someone put it into the wrong basket. Was $69 when we checkout. Bought it anyway.

BTW, I also got a crumpler for Christmas, next year's school bag. :)

Anyway, went to IKEA after reading inspirational articles on minimalism, in short, its time for spring cleaning.

IRS Exhibition 11:01 AM

Okay, so things get quite stupid after a few hours and after you have given the same presentation about 20+ times to different groups of people.

That's my booth, and the poster and other stuff was quite well received. Bumped into Mr. Sudesh from ACS(P), and took a look at their booth.

My AirMouse/iPhone ran out of battery halfway, and after lots of fiddling managed to charge it duno why it stopped sometimes. And primary school kids love to touch everything........

IRS Exhibition Prep 10:03 PM

For some unknown reason, my research is now at the IRS exhibition. I dun get to present to everyone though, disappointed. The talk was stupid, and that woman in charge of GEP is extremely irritatingly naggy, just like at Moot Parliament. She needs a PR assistant.

Set up booth, and then went home. Bringing MacBook Pro tomorrow with presentation, and going to use my iPhone as an AirMouse. (Think waving your phone around to control a cursor.....)

Fly By Night 9:50 PM

Went for Fly-By-Night movie screening. Awful. The past year entries were all so lame and boring and stupid. Terrible plots abound.

iPhone Developer Conference 10:35 AM

Okay. Now I am gonna be damn happy.

Today I went with Sridhar and Kapilan for the Singapore iPhone Tech Talks. I think it is very nice of Apple to bring these developer conferences to more countries. I registered online already using my Developer Connection account.

The reception people were super fantastic, they were really really nice. Black T-Shirt and jeans with a black table cloth of course..... I came in like biege pants and an orange T-Shirt, looking like the 1 to 1 shopping person at the apple store.....

The first of two standout scenes was the UI Kit session. There was this presentation, and the slides were filled with size 12 code, highlighted in at least 7 different colors. The speaker ran through it quickly. Did an impossibly fast demo. I was befuddled. And he kept saying that "Its very simple."

The second one was when the system security stopped XCode from compiling an App and running it. The speaker needed an assistant to come on stage where they tried 4 different passwords. The App ran. The security window appeared again. They typed in a password. It didn't work. Worked on the second try.

There were like tea and lunch in between the sessions, and the food was nice. Its really nice of Apple to host this. Did I mention free? It shows they are concerned about the customer experience.

Anyway Winfred appeared halfway through. I duno why Sridhar asked him to come. Winfred was swearing like every 5 min, even during the sessions, and was told by a delegate to be quiet. So embarrassing.

Oh yeah, and we were the only kids there, with the exception of one more guy. So the reception people were even nicer to us, and were very concerned throughout the DevCon, like directing us to more seats and other stuff.

The sessions were really exciting with a few exceptions. I think that this sort of thing really requires you to think through. Its quite complicated, but interesting. With the exception of the Web App Development session. Boring. Terrible. Javascript. The Horror Of It All. Left Halfway through for the Interface Builder session.

I think the whole Developer Conference was really cool. I'm happy with life. :P

Okay.  I'm sorry.  I lied.  I'm not dead. I just kinda not have the mood to talk about myself after that disaster day.

I think I'm happier today, or at least trying to be.  Went to iDA Youth Infocomm day at the Dragonfly nightclub at St. James Powerstation. It was pretty fun, and the exhibits were really interesting.  But the SMS messageboard was screwed up because it didn't display alot of our SMSes until like almost at the end.  And I can't believe that RI won an award for producing an iPhone app with code that was essentially available for free on the internet. Preposterous. 

And they got a fire eater to come by also, which was really cool.

Lunch was tasty.

My address-book and iCal sync are in complete disarray, an unhappy image of my life today.  I feel emo...

A number of things didn't quite work out.  I feel upset, ignored, left out, and I still miss the Dan very badly.

The Suppiah has caused great umbrage regarding the IRS exhibition.  Reprinting my poster is expensive and terribly inconvenient.  I am very upset, and she is not helping anything.  But this is still the least of my worries.

I can't hide this any longer, and this is my blog.  I feel left out about not being a PSL.  I can't believe I wasn't selected.  Everyone else is so excited about it.  Its all over FaceBook and other peoples' blog.  Being left out is the worst feeling.  Its like I didn't make the cut.  All the cool people are PSLs.  I try not to show it or talk about it.  I pretend to be uninterested.  But it appears everywhere.  I realize it only hurts when you pretend it doesn't.  Life is so unfair.

I miss the Dan very badly.  I'm holding on to something, hoping it will comeback, but knowing it won't.  It used to be the reason I breathed, but now its choking me up.  Some people think that holding on will make you stronger, but sometimes its letting go that does.

I feel ignored, by people who don't reply to me.  I wish I were as invisible as these people make me feel.  Its like they don't want to talk to me.  Sometimes, I just feel so alone.  I know that some of them are upset too, caught up in mis-happenings in their own lives.  Lee Zheng has suddenly become very upset about something, and he's not talking to anyone.  Silence is the most powerful cry.

Its at these times, that I also remember all the things and people I hate.  And I sit here crying, not because I miss them, but because I know I'll never have the chance to hurt them, like they hurt me.  I do not intend to tiptoe through life only to arrive safely at death.  The existence of these people hurts me almost as much as this razor-blade does.  I hurt myself so you can't.  I buried myself on the inside so I could shut you out.  Every tear tells a different story, and I wish I could gather all my tears so that I could fxxxing drown these people in them.

I hate life, and life hates me.  Depression has only one cure, and no one cared enough to stop me from curing myself.

Grade 6 Theory of Music 9:56 PM

Arrrggghh! This years exam is at the YMCA. So scary. The harmony is totally freaky. And I was memorizing the key signatures like the day before. 

Waiting is like super scary. I though I might find someone I know to talk to. But it seems Daniel Shim quit piano. Apparently he hated it. Damn.

I took almost all three hours to finish the paper, and left almost at the end. I hope I dun fail.

NCDCC Camp Day 3 10:12 PM

Lee Zheng left this morning. Zhi En and the other NCOs spent yesterday dithering over wether or not to have a POP, and finally decided to do one this morning, after saying there was no time last night. I can't believe he is so enthu to get the procedure for one out of an original British navy manual.

Later on, clearing tents, which were left in the classroom, someone was very mean and made a remark. He said that maybe Alex Ng slept on the folded tents. Dumped them back at the NCDCC room.

Drills and then POP. Somehow ended up sorting the certs and MCing. POP was okay, then went home and slept until dinner time. Missed karate, har har har.

I guess apart from the disasters, and the silly little enthu people, NCDCC camp was quite fun. Being NCO is fun. Being a mean NCO is even more fun. Har Har Har!

NCDCC Camp Day 2 10:10 PM

Obviously we had to scrap the night patrol, which was another idea from the silly little enthu people. PT was hilarious, cuz Benedict Ng was leading it. He was quite mean to the yr 1s. Har har.

Knots and Lines was after breakfast. I was doing the teaching for this lesson, and had already heavily edited the terrible NCDCC powerpoint last night, removing the ugliness from it. I can't stand ugly slides. The whole lesson went okay, although there were a number of people who didn't really get it at first. Nicholas got Photobooth and my iSight running so I had something like a visualizer running. Thanks Nicholas!

The test was an utter disaster. Either I am a terrible tutor, or the yr 1s don't really care. If we take into account the 2 minute time limit for the 7 knots, basically everyone failed, except for a very small collection of people. There was this one person, William, whom I met at the NUH Surgical Division new year party. He took almost three times as long as the time limit, knew only 3 knots, took more than 3 tries to tie each one, and got none of the names or terminology correct. In short, failed. Actually, I more or less gave up halfway through, and just said something like "Forget it! You fail! Out! Get out! Send the next person in! Get Out!", to which another NCO called me mean. Can't remember who.

Later had to go retest people. Drill, drills and more drills for yr 1s. Another idea from the silly little enthu people. 7hr total of all three days. So mean. Yr 1s must be exhausted.

Later on at 1 we had to go for Alex Ng's little NEWater course, at the NEWater visitor center. Its apparently a bid to get bonus points for our unit. Been there already, so terribly boring. Goodness knows why in the world Alex Ng would, of all the days to choose, stuff it right in the middle of the camp. Lee Zheng saved us the trouble of leaving 2 NCOs behind, cuz he stayed behind to look after our stuff.

Frankly the NEWater center is terrible. I find that parts of their scientific data and taxonomy are not particularly accurate. Worse still, they have done nothing to remedy that horrible cheesy excuse for an intro video. Personally, I think they should fire the video host. That would be really "fantastic".

Even worse, Purple Tang got an SMS from Jeremy confirming what he had been told earlier. Turrance is not going to be our CT. Last minute change apparently. New CT is ms Fiona Ho, and bio will be Ms Choy. The ostrich ran away. I guess we traded a hilarious bio teacher for an extremely nice one. Dunno which is better. Oh, but Ms Candy Ong will be teacher our class for at least one of the maths, how nice!

Spent a lot of the time disturbing Tang.

Field cooking was another disaster, because one of the silly little enthu people tried to solo everything. This person had already been trying to solo everything, for everything. Joel Toi and me got pretty upset after he tried to commandeer drills and camp craft. Year 2s and 3 NCOs missed dinner, cuz there was really too many things to do, and the yr 1s were very slow.

Later on during more drills for yr 1s, we got chased away by Mr Gavin Ang. Apparently they were having con camp. Didn't know they stayed this late. Anyway, Andrew prepared dinner for the year 2s, so we didn't miss it after all. That was very nice of him.

Lee Zheng returned from the BB waterfight. Apparently he was being a moderator.

Just before bedtime everyone was polishing boots. Dunno why in the world Zhi En was being so enthu... Insisting of this and that. But I owe him one for helping me out there, cuz I am the opposite of enthu.

Ended up sleeping at 1 am again, because of Alex Ng, and his little movies and strange songs...

Dear beloved 2.10 Dan!,

Today will be my last day as a Danner, as Chairperson of Dan, Tribal Chief, King Spike.  I just want to say my thank yous and goodbyes, and say somethings that I never got the chance to say, but always wanted to.  If I ever lost my temper at you, I'm sorry.  You'll never know how much I will miss this class, and I really liked the Dan.  Its small class with a big personality I will always treasure.  So lets go... (There's one for everyone)

Thank you Joel, for being one of the few people who stuck by my side, every time without fail, when it was me against everything else.  Thank you for watching over me and pulling me through this year.  Thank you for catching me before I fell off the funny plank thingy at Port Dickson.  Thank you for the countless times you helped with Chinese homework.  Thank you for being the one person who came and asked if I was okay after I was really upset about exam results.  If I seemed unapproachable, if I didn't seem appreciative, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be.  I regret not talking more to each other.  Thank you for being so nice to me.  Thank you for being something of a guardian angel to me, thank you for being a friend.

Thank you Nicholas, for being my friend. Thank you for getting me through each day.  Thank you for listening when I needed to rant and rave.  Thank you for the tons of maths homework help, thank you for getting me through NCDCC.  Thank you for the help with everything.  You never fail to make me smile on a day when nothing seems to go right.  Thank you for making me happy everyday.  And thank you for fixing my tech problems too.

Thank you Lucas, for making me laugh, with rather "unconventional" jokes.  Thank you for lending me tons of things like writing paper, and getting me through many lessons.  Every time don't have something, its borrow from you.  Thank you for the help with homework.

Thank you Arul, Vignesh, Dheeraj, Aravind, Nico, Jonta, for being my projectwork Dream-team.  I could never have achieved what I did without you.  I wish we could work together again someday.  Thank you for being so patient with me during the History Documentary, when I was screaming every five minutes.  Working with you is incredible, you guys are an amazing team.  Thank you for helping me put things into perspective, and telling me not to worry about my results.  Thank you too for the laughs during and outside projects.

Thank you Sheng, for all the laughs and smiles.  Thank you for being really really nice to me.  I'm sorry about not practicing for the music project.  Thank you for teaching me so much I never knew about life.  Thank you for telling me to stop worrying about maths, thank you for making me feel better, day after day.  Thank you for always putting a smile on my face.

Thank you Jia, Colin, Paul, John, for all the jokes (especially the really funny ones about teachers) and laughs, and also teaching me that school is not everything in life.  I'm sorry if I ever lost my temper.  I'll miss you guys + Sheng, because you guys gave Dan so much of its personality.  Thank you for making Dan who it is, thank you for making me enjoy life so much more.

Thank you Geng Jie, for being so nice every single day of the year.  Thats something thats really difficult to match.

Thank you Noel, for making my life in school so much more interesting.  The debates, arguments, musical rehearsals, memories I will always treasure.  I can't imagine lessons without you, it would be downright boring.

Thank you Jin Chong, for the millions of tons of maths homework help, and for waiting by my side, in a freezing cold library, to finish my maths work.  That's something I can never forget.

Thank you Asyraf, Samuel, Hasif, for cheering me up on days I feel like crying.  I wouldn't have got through this year without you.

Thank you Pheng Hwee, for helping me settle in, in year 1 when we just joined ACS (I).  In a place where everyone was a stranger, in a world where I was lost, and I had little people to talk to, you were one of the first people to approach me and talk to me.  It made settling in way easier.  I really appreciate that.  I'm sorry if I seemed unappreciative.  Thank you for being so friendly to me.  

Thank you Dilshaan for making boring lessons so much more interesting with extremely "inquisitive" questions.  It made a world of difference.  On days you were sick, the lessons were all to terribly boring.  Thank you for all those questions.

Thank you Satiyam, for trying to help in any way possible.  That's really nice of you, and I appreciate that.

Thank you Gregory, for all the laughs and entertainment.  Thank you for being one of the icons of Dan.  Every teacher probably knows you.  History was funny.  Thank you for the laughs. :)

Thank you Dan, for giving me one of my best years in school.  I always thought this class was special.  I was never let down.  I always thought this class had a big personality.  I was never proved wrong.  I cannot imagine what life would be like in another class.  Dan is just so different, so much more expressive, so much more creative, from other classes I have been in.

Thank you for pulling me through each day.  I would never be here is not for you.  Thank you for teaching me so much about life.  Thank you for making me a better person.

Thank you for the laughs, the memories and the time we spent together. 

School can never be the same without you guys, and I will never forget Dan 2008.  The memory of this year is something I will forever treasure.

Its been an honor to fight every single one of the odds alongside you, and an honor to serve as your chairperson / Tribal Chief.

NCDCC Camp Day 1 10:55 PM

Uh Oh, the backdating monster is back.  Nicholas Sim, I already know what you are going to say...

Well, today was also the last day of school, so let me start with that first.  It was really sad, obviously.  I think that Dan is the one class I will miss sorely, because it is a class with so much personality.  This class gave me one of the best years in school.  I am very proud of 2.10 Dan, and it has been all that I could ask for.  Thank you 2.10 Dan!  I've written my thank you letter in another post, so I will not go into the details here.

I was half crying as we left the 2.10 classroom, and I will always remember the little things that made life special.  I was hugging something like everyone before we left.  School is just not going to be the same anymore.  Words don't do that feeling of loss justice.  I can't believe that I am in 3.8 when the bulk of my class is in 3.9 and 3.10.

But as we walked up to the yellow level, and I stepped into the new classroom, I just smiled.  2009 will be an interesting year, and an opportunity to make new friends and get to know more people.  A little disappointed that Ms Candy Ong will not be teaching my class.  Best of all however, the class teacher and bio teacher will be Turrance! How fun!  But I will never let go of 2.10 Dan.  I brought my normal ACS badge to swap with my Chairman badge once I stepped into the new classroom.  I couldn't do it.

Ok, but back to the NCDCC camp.  Naturally, I adamantly refused to leave school early to prepare for it.  I think that as a Danner, it is duty to remain with the class down to the last minute, before we split and go our separate ways.  Anyway, I was over the moon to find out that Lee Zheng would be staying over with us for the camp.  I am so happy that the nicer WO would be with us.  Later, Daniel Lim came along, but thank god he was not going to be here overnight.

Tent pitching went pretty ok.  But the yr 2s ending up shouting a lot because the yr 1s were simply obnoxious, and were hurling direct insults to people 2 ranks above them (i.e. Us). Later on First Aid test was a complete disaster, because people took ages to do it.  All the worst for the year 2s, because we were the examiners.

Dinner, then drill practice.  The yr 2s were more or less in charge of the camp, so it was pretty slack for us.  It was also very fun, cuz we can yell at the yr 1s and knock them down (pumping).  Har har har. I was pretty distraught at dinner when David said I was becoming another Daniel Lim, am I that mean?  Lee Zheng came back from playing the whole day.  Bleugh, better than testing yr 1s for first aid.  Apparently he is considering staying on as CLT.  If you are reading this now Lee Zheng, pleeeeeezzeee stay on as CLT and chase Daniel Lim away.  Pleeeezzeee? :)

Disaster that night. It rained heavily, and the tents flooded, and the ground was muddy all around. Thank goodness that the yr 2 and 3 NCOs were staying in classrooms. But then we still had to help the year ones get their stuff out of the tents and into the classrooms. At the end of the whole debacle, everyone was wet, cold and had muddy shoes. Add to that, there was a tremendous mix up of luggage, and the disaster was more or less complete. We ended up sleeping at 12 am, while I stayed up till 1 am to prepare the Knots and Lines lesson for tomorrow.

I was suggesting that the tents be pitched under the shelters around the art rooms area, and I also got the other NCOs the week long weather report, which had said thunderstorms for the whole week. But no, they wanted to do it just outside the canteen extension in that muddy field. They wanted to do it out in the open when the weather report said thunderstorm for the whole week ahead. You see, this whole debacle would have been averted if the person in charge of camp craft and tent pitching actually had a say in where to pitch the tents. Silly little enthu people. Outrageous.

IRS Research 10:52 PM

Whoopee! My research has been sent for the IRS exhibition and their research poster competition by the Suppiah.  Heehee.  The foam board unfortunately is to small for my poster.  Looks like I will have to be reprinting it.  How expensive.  Dang it.  The Suppiah is adamant, and insists that the foam board is the maximum size for a poster to be entered into the competition.  Dang it.

Umm.. Before we get on to that, I need to talk about tommorrow first right? I really didn't feel like posting yesterday. Very bad mood since dinner. Very big family argument.

Yesterday was even more movies. Ms Yeow brough High School Musical. Noel was having fits if laughter throughout and making comments about guailo basketball. OWL brought Monster House. I think it's very nice of these people to bring movies instead of spending the whole lesson on paper review. Thanks Ms Yeow + OWL.

BTW the OWL thanked us for helping at the Life Sciences open house. I think that is very thoughful.

Later we had an anti drug talk that was simply terrible. Uggh! The speaker has an awful accent, that was really painful to listen to. Then the slides were terribly ugly. Then there were gross video clips. Ugh!

Spend the rest I that day slacking and preparing 3D models for my ISO presentation. Arul and Vigneah think I am crazy for spending bourse on a single icon in my presentation. Oh well...

We had MPac's first productive meeting if the year. We learnt Final Cut Express. I still wanna quit if we don't learn Blender.

Today was more slacking. Listened to iPhone in class and half slept. I didn't know that Sheng listens to Chinese music, and that Lucas listens to rock. Unfortunately we did not watch any movies today. How sad.

The release of the result were terribly disastrous. Except for Life Sciences and History. I think I have my future career cut out for me as a Biologist in some specialists field. :) Life Sciences was 90, tie with Nico, top in class, third in level. I got full marks for history, unfortunately, my file and debate were not perfect, leaving my with a overall score of 96. Art was 80, class top. The others were so so, like around 70s and 83 for geography.

Now for the disaster part. I flunked maths, 57 upon 100. My parents were expecting 100, so got into trouble and had to listen to lectures about "maths needs practice". Physics only 70 something. Chinese only 70 after moderation. Even my language arts only got 70. Something about paragraphs being to brief. My handwriting is just small, like font size 8, so my paragrahs are usually 5 lines. The worst was when we got the report book draft. Arul's average was a full 8 marks higher than me, I got 79 point something. I had only 3 grade sevens even though last year I had grade seven for everything except two subjects.

The only good thing was excellent for ePOD and ISO. But that only gives a meager 42 points total. And ISO is screwed up. I got 91, but Lucas who couldn't care less about ISO got 96.

I was just down and out after I saw the results. _____ got pretty upset too. He didn't come back for twenty minutes after recess, and we though something had happened to him. He was practically crying after the results were released, and Asyrsf was supposed to watch out for him. Asyraf did not. So me, Asyraf and Joel went out to look for him, only to find later that he had gone back to the classroom.

Ok, back to me. So I was pretty much moping for the rest of the day, down and out. Of course I tried to hide my upset, but it probably didn't work cos Joel came and asked weather I was ok, and told me not to worry about my results. I think that's really thoughtful, when other people like Lucas and Noel just stare and laugh.

Sheng and Jia were also really nice about it. Sheng kept telling me that I have nothing to be upset about, cos I passed maths, and to get full marks for maths is insane. Jia said that he would be really happy if he were me, and that the people who laughed are just jealous of my awesomeness. Haha :)

Oh and Sheng and Noel are going to try to start a band. They asked my to be keyboards. Hopefully we can be better than Avery.

What would I do without these people who somehow get me through another day?

Today started off pretty bad, with me misplacing my EzLink card. I frankly had no idea where it could ever be. It was kinda slack today, there were some paper reviews which we did not bother to pay attention to, some interesting movies and lots of free time, which we spent mostly playing Uno.

The first movie we watched was Waterhorse, during Art. I already watched I before, but I think I is a nice movie, so I watched it again, instead of sleepig. Then during Chinese, GL did a paper review and gave Ku holiday homework, to the umbrage of everyone. By after that be put on this this really cute and funny video about aliens. The movie is titled CJ7 after the supercute alien that it involves. I dunno how to describe it, the alien is so darn cute and cuddly, big eyes and all. I think I'll go get the movie, as it looks like one of the best independent movies, and we didn't get to finish watching it. I soooo badly want a CJ7 stuffed toy. Thanks GL for putting on such a cute movie. I nearly missed the alien appearance though, coiling up my charger. Thanks Joel for telling me!

Speaking of which, I was reading the section entitled The Fall of Apple in Steve Job's biography, when Joel came and pointed to the title and said that created Issacc Newton. I guess that's a pretty cute way to look at it. I wouldn't have thought of that.. .:)

The last movie was some horrible musical. We thought that we were actually going to watch a live musical. The video was awful. They need to fire the choreographer an wardrobe designer.

Oh, and UYO resumes this Friday. How awful and diabolical. It's supposed to teach discipline, but all I've learnt is to treasure the days it's not on. :(

On the plus side, I found my EzLink at the end of the day in my bag.. And am finally inspired about my ISO presentation. It's pretty hard trying to balance novelty in new designs, with wow factor and ease to creation. I will most certainy not use templates. I need mine to be rendered with 3D motion graphics. Templates are for Lesser Beings.

Scratches And Slashes 10:38 PM

I'm blogging from MRT and will finish the post at home. Today totally sucks. I know there were a lot of slacking and free time, but today I learned to never ever lend premium computers to other people, and I learned that the hard way. I lent my MacBook Pro, worth nearly $6000, to Jonta Koga out of sympathy. His hall master Grace Kwee locked up his computer in a closet for exams, and still is not giving back after the exams are over, and no one else wanted to lend Jonta when he needed to complete some important forms. It was returned with a long scratch on the base.

Earlier on Jin Chong had grabbed my computer bag and went around hiding it in various places and tossing it around. Stupid scout. The MacBook Pro screen casing returned with a crack/chip.

I can't believe that people, fellow humans can be like that. It's patently unthinkable. I think it's totally ridiculous that when you lend a computer it returns with problems. The least they could do is take care of it. I honestly do not know what to say. I can't believe that some people can be such bozos. Obviously I am deeply upset. If your laptop costs four or five times the cost of an average Dell, you would understand me. I mean, it's a mac! Creme de la creme. Perfection, precision, excellence. A scratch just spoils everything about is design.

Thank goodness there are always nice people around to get me by. Arul and Vignesh are very practical people, and put everything back into perspective. They explained that it such a small scratch an hardly visible. To me it's very visible, but it's very nice of them to come around and comfort me. I guess they earned their brainy reputation with their practicalness.

Nicholas an Lucas were really nice about it. Lucas very kindly listened to all my rantings and diatribes. Lucas tries to pretend to be mean all day, but he's really nice when he wants to be. Nicholas? What can I say? A priceless friend.

It's hard to not laugh or grin when you talk with Nicholas. Another person whom I cannot help but grin when I talk to is Joel Ong. I think he really did alot for me throughout the year. Everytime it was me against the class, everytime I was fighting alone, he was one of the few people who stood by my side, and I really appreciate it. If I didn't show it, I'm terribly sorry, and I owe you alot. So thanks a zillion Joel! :) Oh, and you and Nicholas also saved me from falling of the funny plank thingy at Port Dickson.

Noel Cheong? Made my life so much more interesting. Thank you!

Elliott Tan? One of the nicest people to me.

I gotta thank all my friends who pulled me through this year. Thank you guys for all the laughs, memories and times we spent together. I can never ever forget all you guys have dome for me. Without you guys, life would be unlivable. I am such an idiot to realize these things so late...

Nico Winata's birthday today. The rich kid is getting a credit card for birthday present. :)

Nico just reminded me of this brilliant quote on FaceBook. I think it it so totally true. :) Today was relatively interesting. After all of us, bro, mum and all followed dad to work for a short while, we went to Borders and Orchard Road. Pretty interesting, there was a 30% discount for members, and also a "20% then 10%" discount package. Dad went and used the latter discount coupon for the more expensive books. He could have saved thirty dollars if he had thought carefully. Haha!

Thank goodness I did not have the misfortune to bump into Daniel Lim (yr 4). He frequents Borders on Sundays. Presumably in search for the book entitled "Torture for Dummies".

We went to Sushi Tei for lunch to my great umbrage. I am sick of sushi. But I was pleasantly suprises by a beautifully rennovated ambience and a nice revamped menu. It was very nice and comfortable, and the food was brilliant.

After that we went back to Borders, still Daniel Lim-free thankfully, and I got the book "Inside Steve's Mind". It's a biography of Steve Job, and Apple's sucess story, and their business model. It's really interesting.

Then went home, and realised I left my waterbottle behind the whiteboard at the Tissue Culture Lab. Will go get it tommorrow. Spent the whole afternoon reading that book, its seriously interesting. Really! :)

Oh I forgot to write something yesterday. I bumped into Daniel Shim at the Tissue Culture Lab, the prefects were tour guides. I said hi. He taoed me. Lucas had apparently asked him to indefinitely. He agreeed. Allister thinks that's not very nice. :)

Karate Grading 10:34 PM

I think I am so screwed. It's actually supposed to be tomorrow, but I'm doing today, cos tommorow "not free". Anyway, everything was going ok until they decided to do the next kata for the next grade. Actually this isn't bad at all, it's very fun and interesting, but I got stuck with this sensei who thought that everyone in 6th kyu already knows the kata, so he went at top speed through everything. Of course I did not know anything about yondan and messed it up totally. It's like super complicated and all, lots is spinning round and round. Then better yet, there were these people from another class and joined us today, dunno why, who must have already practiced like crazy, and were doing very well, so I looked like a complete retard.

Oh, on the way home we stopped by Delifrance to get bread to go with pumpkin soup tonight, and one of the loaves has a most interesting title. Please append "s" after the first "a" and order it loudly at your next social function. It's name is the Batard. How amusing.

I didn't post yesterday cos I didn't feel like it and also wanted to go to sleep. Anyways, yesterday was the Life Sciences open house. It was actually quite fun, and there were a lot of little kiddies and a Boh Yuan who asked Nico lots of weird questions. Ha ha. I can't post the questions here as they would be too much adult material. We had a huge whiteboard to fill with "relevant material", in the words of Mr See Boon Tiam, but was actually filled with illustrations of carnivorous tomatoes and blue snails, plus a strange screenshot of a game between two vegetables, annotated with phrases like "KO".

Oh yes, and we spent the whole time poking fun at Boh Yuan's half dead tomatoes which he tried to revive to no avail. And I got to do the laminiar flow micropropagation, since I am more or less the only year 2 who knows how to do it, or so I am told... But my ethanol spray got hijaked by the other people, and was sprayed like all over the lab and all over everyone, so they used up like half of it. Thank goodness Ms Khin the lab technician didn't say anything.

From here it was downhill, after all the fun. I forgot my EzLink card so I had to call my mum to fetch me, then have to stay at her office all afternoon and got scolded too. At least there was fast T1 industrial speed internet access.

Then SPORE on my iMac crashed with debug errors and wouldn't start ever again. So my bro got really pissed and kept bugging me to fix it, which I managed to today by using another account. Bloody EA, this is apparently a common issue on all their Mac games. What awful support. I tried increasing the graphics cache, and we will see whether it crashes on this account. If you are playing SPORE on Mac I hope this helps...

The Calm After The Storm 10:36 PM

Today is the first day after the disastrous end of year exams. I spent it slacking and playing SPORE on my MacBook Pro. I got past the tribal stage today, and will be going on to the civilisaion stage. It seems that if you design the land vehicle without wheels the game crashes. A software bug, how very interesing. I can't believe that my brother is already at the space stage...

Tomorrow will be the Life Sciences Open House. I will be at the tissue culture lab, and I'm next to certain that the experiment that I'm supposed to demo involves cutting carrots. It seems to be their favourite demo experiment. The extensive disinfection seems rather extend just for chopping up carrots. Think washing elbow length with antibacterial, ethanol spray on every working surface including gloves, and flame sterilization of all tools. Well, it's all great fun.

I had alot of time today to reflect on this disaster year. I think that this year finally made me believe that grades are not everything, it's not the end of the world if you flunk a paper, and you can never be the best in everything. It also made me realize how important friends are, and how much mine have done for me. The countless times you helped me through maths or Chinese homework. The countless affectionate jokes (mostly about spikiness), laughs and happy memories. Thank you all for all you have done to help me through this year. I know I didn't show it if I appreciated you, and I know I missed alot. If I shouted, if I hurt your feelings, if I ignored you, if I seemed like I didn't care, I'm sorry...

Today the Chinese paper was actually easy, but there wasn't enough time. I really regret not writing faster, and I think I messed up the one chance I had of doing well in a paper. I don't want to think about it.

We were at the classroom ten minutes early, and the Law wanted to "Read to you the preamble slowly..."

Disaster Paper 2:33 PM

Oh dear. Very big oh dear. The physics paper today was an unmitigated disaster. It was terribly difficult. The questions, especially that bl__dy little question on the terminal velocity of a ball, and those idiot chemical equations. I don't know where I am going to hide my face after this terrible paper's results appear. Most unfortunate.

Uh well, at least the Lang Arts B was easy enough. It was actually quite fun writing the commentary, and it's very nice of Dave Ivan to provide what is essentially an answer key and ask us to copy it down one week before the exam. Well to be precise, the theme for the last commentary was extremely similar to question A in the exam.

Also, we had Dheepa and Turrance for invigilators again. In the Physics paper we were supposed to attach the writing paper to the back of the question paper with the string provided, except that there were no holes on the question paper. So Turrance said: "Here's the string, you go do your fiddling and stuff. I think there are supposed to be holes, but unless they are microscopic..." Ms Suseela had a different approach: "Here's the string, good luck"

Also, Jia Yuan left his calculator in his bag during the Physics paper, and asked Turtance if he could go take it, after the paper started. Turrance took approx. 5 min to decide, with a lot of "hmm.."s and finger counting... :)

Well, one last paper tomorrow, Chinese paper two. Half my friends couldn't care less about it and are now celebrating today, but I think I will try and study for it. Wish me luck just one last time! :)

Great Exam With Mean Lucas 1:12 PM

I'm writing just after the last paper and on the way home, waiting at the roundabout. The papers went especially well today, especially the Chinese composition paper. The Chinese paper suprisingly was quite fun actually, I enjoyed doing it.

History was also very easy, although I may perhaps missed out on 1 or 2 marks. I hope not. I also hope to get above 90. It was also quite fun.

Lucas is being mean again, and has taken to poking people. Surprise surprise.

There were more normal invigilators today than the first five papers. Earlier on we had Dheepa screaming "Satiyam, why can't you understand! I asked you to tie the papers before I collect them!" with accent and all. We also had ms Audrey Tay say "No wonder!" when the Law asked who was the CT and PCT of our class, regarding messy tables.

BTW, the Law is opening applications for godmother-ship after exams, pending her preference, or so she says......

Terrence (Pronounced "tur-rance") also asked Arul to demonstrate walking through the door. Today Turrance was strangling Jia in the middle of the history paper.

Tomorrow is Physics and Language Arts paper two. I hope I do very well for both. Wish me luck again!

More Mugging 10:28 PM

I've just finished mugging for history and Chinese composition exam tomorrow. I'm a little nervous for history. It's like a story, and you just need to know the plot. Except it is a really bad plot. Too much writing too. Complain, complain...

As for Chinese, I an strangely way more confident this year, with the exception of the evil letter writing, in which they 扣分 for every little mistake, including too much cancelling! I also finally got my hands on a electronic dictionary.

There's also been something I had meant to have written in the past week Ior so, but never really got down to doing it. It was a really weird experience at the Scoopz ice cream at Parkway Parade. There was this lady in front of me, who insisted on trying virtually every single flavour. She used tons of disposable spoons by the way. Finally, at the end of all the sampling, she asked for avocado flavour, when there was quite obviosly no avocade flavour. Me being Allister, said a bit too loudly, "That sounds really fun. I want to try all the flavours too!". This caused the weird lady to glare and leave all of a sudden.

Oh well exam tomorrow, bedtime. Wish me luck! Weehee! Woohoo!

I feel vey downcast today. The events of MPac have turned out very messy, and a number of people have gotten very bad impressions of me. I also think that I've lost one or two friends.

I've gotten into all this trouble just because I am just doing my job. Sometimes I wonder why I am putting so much of my emotional health on the line. It's one of those days where I think everything would be better without me.

Not A Good Day 4:11 PM

I shall rant. Note the tone of much upset. Today was pretty disastrous. ePOD essay due, ISO report due. Neither of which done. Maths teacher did not get my assignment which I had left in the pigeonhole. After that, Dilshaan has to be a b**** and get the ISO mentor to minus 3 marks in everyday work criteria for lack of punctuality. Also forgot to bring MacBook Pro charger, which meant a very unproductive day. The location tag is weird because I am around the wholesale center buying fruits. Apart from iPhone, which was brilliant, today just sucks.

Last Day of IP Symposium 12:27 PM

Today is the last day of IP Symposium.  The whole thing was pretty fun, quite sad today is the last day :-(

Moot parliament was quite an experience today.  It seems that many people use it as an excuse to hurl insults at each other!  Lots of comments about zoos and monkeys as we were debating whether to allow condos to be built in nature reserves. :-)  It was fun actually.  Can't quite imagine paul as the Sergeant-of-Arms, going around, whacking people with a mace! :-)  Cannot understand why Prop won though. :-(

So fun, I'm so doing this again next year!

Alternative Energy 12:20 PM

Today is presentation day!  I had to do three rounds for three different groups.

It was overall quite fun and interesting.  There was a question about the drop in efficiency when placing a wire mesh around a tidal generator, to which Jonta replied "There are two types of fish.  The big fish and the small fish", to the roaring laughter of the audience! ;-)

I think it was pretty educational, getting people to conserve energy and our earth.  We only have one home.  It was fun I guess, and I hope I have made a difference today.

Alternative Energy Prep 12:14 PM

Today was prep for IP Symposium paper presentation.  To remind myself again, I am doing on alternative energy.  The whole day we stayed in school to do the presentation.  "Law" was in charge.  There were a lot of funny comments.  We had to skip the electives though, so sad! :-(

Anyway I am using Keynote from iWork'08, because iWork + Mac rocks. :-)

Singapore Science Centre 10:17 AM

Today was very interesting.  We went to the Singapore Science Centre, to see the climate change and water conservation exhibits.  BTW, their new logo looks awful.  They should stick to the old one, I liked it.

There was a short briefing before we started, and it was quite weird.  The woman who was giving the briefing had really, really odd pronunciation.  She pronounced "schist rock" as "cheese rock".  And said literally about 250 "Okay"s.  We counted.  I really had to try to stop laughing.

We went to climate change exhibit first, and there were quite a lot of interesting exhibits.  I like the animation for the ice cores exhibit, must make it a point to find out how it was done.  Also, I got the company name for the semivirtual-reality exhibits.  The energy saving home had a lot of interesting devices like the power aware cord which glows brighter and blinks faster as more power is used.  And the flower light, which blooms when less power is used.  (Above)

Wanted to see the Genome exhibit, but no time, so sad! :-(

I tried to find all these at the things at the gift shop; I had made a note to myself to buy them, but I could not find them.  How upsetting.

The water exhibit was quite interesting.  I liked the exhibit where they projected an earth mapped to a sphere.  Need to find out how that was done!

Lunch was a quick one, at a cafe at the back, had popcorn chicken and a ham and cheese sandwich. 

Went for the IMAX movie about the colorado river after that.  The movie was good.

After that went for the gift shop, where I bought a tube of touchable bubbles, blue topaz and 3 packets of freeze-dried ice cream.  Andrew says that the ice cream was very nice, raving about it!  It is nice by the way.

Took MRT to Eunos back, then bus 13.  Very fast.  Need to prepare for alternative energy presentation, but all in all nice day.  Good retail therapy! :-)

Desktop Garden Doing ... 3:47 PM

Doing desktop garden today.  Met up with Winata and Koga at my home.  Quite fun, but very messy! :-)  Potting material all over the floor.  Kept needling Jonta about not appearing for our meetings. :-)We went to Parkway Thai for lunch buffet.

Today was fun.  I went to nursery today to get plants for desktop garden.  It seems that I have very conflicting senses of design with other people.  The selection of plants is quite amazing.  Also the pre-made desktop gardens were actually very nice, should buy one. :-)

Today was the first day of IP Symposium.  The opening address was from some PUB person.  Lucas and her argued about the amount of clean energy used in Singapore.

We watched The Day After Tomorrow after that, "Law" chose the movie.  But it was very good, trying to get the movie from Jonta Koga.

First day of school was okay I guess, boring.  The twentyfour ad was postponed because NYAA is being evil and not replying to our sponsorship letter.

Last Day of Holidays 12:26 PM

I am very disastrously unhappy and utterly outraged.  My holiday has been rubbish, what with NCDCC ATC and SANA course and work and project-work and even more work and tuition and etc.  I have had about 6 free days out of the entire holiday.

I think we live in a country that is too kiasu that we sacrifice so much, in fact almost all, of our personal time for work and school.  These people who want to meet so often needs to get a life.  I have one for god's sake!  I think that people these days fail to recognize the fact that people have a life outside of school and work.

I think that modern life is too stressed.  This should not have to be the price of living in an up to date society.  This is ridiculous.  The people who came up with this education system honestly ought to be shot dead!  People nowadays have absolutely no respect for other people's time at all.

Children of the past made leaf collections as school projects, now all we do are powerpoints and more powerpoints.  Where is human interaction, where is life?  Why are we becoming so cold, robotic?

Life is short.  As I have said in my ramblings on life, I don't want to be saying "Oh, I've worked so hard, I'm happy" in my twilight years, but rather I would want to be able to say "I've had one life that I lived to the max."

Going All Around Singapore 6:47 PM

Had MPac film shoot again.  It seems like this twentyfour advertisement is dragging on forever.  Well at least today is more interesting, we are going all around Singapore to do the film shoot.

The first stop was Esplanade theaters on the bay, where we did the jumper scene both on the Esplanade bridge and in the Esplanade foyer.  We had to get the management's approval to do the latter though.  We went to the management office and requested to see the supervisor.  The receptionist was very shocked; "Regarding what?" :-) Ha, ha!

After that we took the MRT to Marina Square to do the mind-reading scene at the McDonalds there.  I acted as the mindreader in this one.  We had a quick lunch there after the takes.

During lunch we thought of doing one scene at Henderson Waves, the tallest pedestrian crossing in Singapore at 200 ft above sea level.  We took an MRT to Harbourfront before taking a bus to the foot of Mount Faber, and walking up to Henderson Waves.

The view is very nice up there, and it was very breezy.  Felt like I could remain there all afternoon. :-)  Unfortunately after resting a while we had to quickly shoot the scene, before leaving to do the last scene that day at the Senkang LRT tracks. :-(  Well, we figured out where we are going to host our film festival this year! :-)

MRT to the last stop Senkang.  We shot the scene at the front of the LRT roller-coaster style.  Had to go two rounds and the other line to get enough footage to speed up.  So boring, wanted to leave early. :-(

After this I took an MRT back to Kembangan, where my mum picked me up to go to my cousin, Su Ming's, birthday party.  Whew! Two birthday parties in a row.  It was quite fun, we managed to have a game of Cluedo after dinner.  We had two ice-cream cakes and two normal cakes, so that we could try many flavors.  As usual Ethan spilled candle wax on the cake and Su Ming could not light the cake. :-)

Quite a nice conclusion to my day, don't you think?

Andrew's Birthday 1:30 PM

I had MPac film shoot in the morning for twentyfour advert.  Done in school, so boring.  Managed to leave before lunch and got Andrew to pick me up from school.  We spent the rest of the day together with Colin.

We went to Vivocity for lunch, some german restaurant, and had some very tasty fish for lunch.  Colin had not arrived yet, he was taking MRT here; we found out that he was also in school for basketball!  And all the time Andrew was like "I know he's definitely asleep!" until he called, then "I bet he's just woken up!"

During lunch Andrew's mum recommended some non-alcoholic beer, which we ordered one to share.  It has the smell of bananas and apple juice, subtly sweet.  It tastes like a blander white wine.  Andrew was "I know from the smell its going to make me throw up!"  We all tried it except Andrew, who refused to touch it ;-).

Steven (Andrews bro) had to go home to tuition.  So we went to Harbourfront to meet Colin, then we took MRT to Sim Lim.  Forgot Ez-Link card, how annoying! Hung out at Sim Lim for rest of the day.  Andrew bought a Razer keyboard and mouse just for the free bag?!  Of course I 

                                                         then made quite a few comments! :-)

We took a cab to UE square and joined Andrews mum and dad and Steven at Minori (Japanese) for dinner.  We laughed at some of the menu things like all the weird parts of chicken. :-)  It was a a la carte buffet but Andrew and Steven and Colin still fought over the sashimi. Ha ha!

Went back to Andrew's place after dinner to play Crysis, and boy does it live up to its reputation.  Its stunning, but I still won't ditch Mac.  I like Macs, but thats another story for another day.

It is an incredibly well written book with stunning A3 sized photos!  The introduction itself makes you imagine as if you are slowly flying outward from earth into the larger scale of things.

Dear blog,

This is my very first blog post.  I think that I shall begin by describing myself.  My name is Allister, and I gel my hair at school, earning the nickname Spiky.  I like plant biology and Macs.  I dislike mean people ... *cough cough to all the mean people out there =)*... 

I am in MPac, Science Research Challenge and NCDCC (ATC was awful by the way, what with all the evil cadet lieutenants etc. =( ).

My June holiday so far has been ridiculously busy, having to meet up lots of times about MPac (Filmmaking Society of ACS Independent) and our upcoming twentyfour filmmaking competition which we are hosting.  On top of that, there are sooooooo... many school projects! =(  Although the history project seems rather interesting; we are supposed to shoot a movie about any topic in Singapore history. =)

I've just watched Chronicles of Narnia - Prince Caspian and Indiana Jones - Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and I have to say that they were very very nice.  We even got extra popcorn coupons at Indiana Jones!

Also, I absolutely love this blog design.  But it was quite a pain to set up; took me the whole morning.

And I have passed my second karate grading and my piano grade 6 practical exam! ;-)

Ours is a world whose society is one that is totalitarian, its people conformist.

They create social taboos, that stop them from rethinking the conventional wisdom. The norms are followed rigidly, and revolutions in thinking are crushed.

Thinking differently is the equal of insanity.

But there is another kind of people. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The crazy ones.

They are the round pegs in the square holes. They see things differently. They are not afraid of challenging the conventions, and the popular ideas. They are not ready to follow these conventions, and they ignore them. Purposely, deliberately, sometimes arrogantly.

They see their strength in their differences, their power in their individuality.

They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo.

You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things.

They are the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world. And they are the ones who do.
